Later, when I managed to read it all the way through, I got the feeling that I was more like the juvenile delinquents who got beat up by the Starship Troopers than I was like the Starship Troopers themselves.

The "father of cyberpunk" is William Gibson, author of the seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromancer. My intent, when I began to write, was to be a one-man science-fiction roots movement. In addition to the traditionally-portrayed medical doctors and physicists, the stories featured liberal doses of paleontologists, ecologists, and other biologists. The role-playing game Shadowrun combines aspects of cyberpunk and, um, fantasy.
