Subjectivism means, on the one hand, the freedom of the individual subject and, on the other, that man cannot pass beyond human subjectivity. Neocolonialism is motivated by economics. Both men were well known leftist writers in the 1930s, and the style and content of The Lin Family Shop is redolent of the social melodramas of the 1930s – the so-called “progressive” films produced between 1932 and 1937 in Shanghai. For every man, everything happens as if all mankind had its eyes fixed on him and were guiding itself by what he does. What you are (essence) is the result of your choices (your existence) rather than the reverse. He thought of his family with tenderness and love.
